When I was younger I very clearly recall my dad’s girlfriend at the time having beautiful, supple, glowing skin (she was in her 40’s). I asked her, “What do you do to keep your skin so nice?”. I’ll always remember her response: “I’ve been taking care of my skin since I was young and I’ve always used good quality products. Take care of your skin now, you’ll thank yourself later.”
A true routine skin care regimen for my face wasn’t an overnight success. I spent years testing products to see what worked best for myself, and on the way spent a LOT of money on high-end, expensive brands at Sephora. I’m talking thousands of dollars on products in which I couldn’t read 99% of the ingredients listed. Today, I now have a sturdy regimen that I live by now, and all the products I use are very affordable (I quit the Sephora runs – best decision I could’ve made). What I recommend most highly is choosing products that lack all the yucky chemicals and harsh synthetics & fragrances. Our skin is like a sponge, and absorbs everything we apply on it.
As you’ll see, Cocokind is my #1 skincare brand that I absolutely adore and have been using for as long as I can remember. The quality is beyond exceptional (clean, non-toxic & sustainable and free from animal cruelty), and the products are affordable (double yes!). Side note – save 10% off your first purchase with Cocokind using discount code AFUELEDAPPROACH.
How I nourish my skin:
Cleanser
Probably the most popular skincare product we can own! A good cleanser is a necessity for me, especially when removing my makeup. I enjoy one that has an oil base to it, as makeup gracefully glides off my face (even mascara). I use Cocokind’s Oil to Milk Cleanser.
Toner
This is a step many tend to lack. Not only is a toner great for double cleansing (after using your cleanser), but it helps restore your PH balance in your skin. Don’t sleep on a good toner, trust. My skin always feels super refreshed once I get to this step, and apply using either a cotton pad or with my hands. I use THAYERS Facial Toner – alcohol-free and paraben-free!
Moisturizer
Keeping my skin nice and hydrated and silky, I enjoy using Cocokind’s Texture Smoothing Cream. This stuff is serious skin food for your face.
Eye Cream
If you’re looking to firm and brighten your eye area (say no to under eye bags!), add this to your routine. I apply day & night, and with time I have noticed a difference – my eyes look more hydrated and happy! I use Cocokind’s Revitalizing Eye Cream (light-weight and soothing).
SPF
Quite possibly the most important product. No, I do not think SPF in makeup is enough. Use EVERY DAY, even if you’re not outdoors. I use multiple products from Supergoop! (most used: Zincscreen 100% Mineral Lotion), a fantastic brand carrying products that are reef-safe, non-irritating, vegan, and silicone-free with no synthetic fragrances.
Exfoliator
Necessary for scrubbing off dead skin cells (which can lead to clogged pours). I exfoliate at least once a week. I use Cocokind’s Sea Moss Exfoliator and Sea Kale Clay Mask.
Bentonite Clay Mask
Gamechanger folks. Game. Changer. Bentonite Clay is known for removing toxins from the body, treating oily skin, and detoxifies your skin. We’re exposed to air pollutants on the daily, so this product is a must-have to help get rid of the nasty stuff that our skin is so susceptible to. I use Aztec Secret β Indian Healing Clay.
Tea Tree Oil
My go-to topical spot treatment for when I have breakouts. With its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, it aids in swelling, redness, and acne scaring.
When I pair a healthy food lifestyle with a good daily face routine, my skin is on cloud nine. Big kudos to Cocokind, because I was saved from having to constantly trial & error different products from different brands – I now have an all-in-one package, plus some. Again, this works for my skin after many years of testing products, and my hope is that you find the right routine that works best for you!
Good skin requires commitment. Love it endlessly.
